Seasons & Activities......... The Tufters is open all year

The scenery on Exmoor is enchanting all year round. Footpaths and bridleways will take you from wonderful heather carpeted moorland to lush green woodland streams and on to dramatic coast lines. All manner of footpaths for walkers of every level are within easy distance and provide the opportunity to experience this magical contrast "where moor meets the sea". 

The cottage is a welcome place to stay for family holidays, friends getting together, sporting trips, outdoor pursuits or just treating yourself to a relaxing holiday break where the pace of life is gentle.

Riding & Bridleways - You can access wonderful bridleways directly from The Tufters. Starting close by at Larcombe foot, this route will take you to Exford or Winsford Hill, The Punchbowl, Knaplock, Liscombe & Tarr Steps (a great spot to get a photo of you & your horse crossing the river Barle).

From our stable yard you can follow the bridleway to Dunkery Beacon or over to Landacre Bridge, a classic Exmoor beauty spot, and great place to let your horse have a splash in the river. Take the bridleway back through Withypool and on to Winsford Village where you can stop for an ice cream at Bridge Cottage Tea Rooms or refreshments at the Royal Oak inn.

Paddock Stream in Winter  

Hiking - Walkers have the opportunity to explore every character of the moor. Footpaths take you across open moor, where you will see close up the herds of Exmoor ponies & the Red Deer of Exmoor. Through the seasons you will have stunning views of purple heather and bright yellow gorse. Contrast this with paths that take you along tranquil river banks, through picturesque villages where you can stop to rest and enjoy a good pub lunch or cream tea. For our guests use we keep OS maps and numerous guide books with graded walks for every level of walker.

*If guests would like to finish their walk by arriving back at The Tufters we would be pleased to drop them off at their chosen starting point.

Mountain biking Same as for the Hikers and Horse riders, we are an excellent base for people who enjoy covering the ground on two wheels. Mountain bike Routes around Dunkery Hill, Dulverton, Winsford, Tarr Steps, are all easy to reach from The Tufters. There are other routes a short drive away and we keep Mountain bike route maps for our guests to use.

Again, if guests would like to finish their bike ride back at the Tufters we would be pleased to drop them off at their chosen starting point.

Water Sports - Wimbleball Lake is 20 minutes from The Tufters.

Hunting - You can hack from The Tufters to many local meets. Choose from several packs including The Devon & Somerset Staghounds, the Exmoor foxhounds, Dulverton West Foxhounds & The Dulverton Farmers Hunt.
